It begins here... The Ministry of Defence (MoD) released a report that predicted 30 years of riots - basically beginning now. They didn't say what the riots would be about, but they did say that they are prepared for it. Police `torture' videos cause uproar in Mexico By TRACI CARL -- El Heraldo de Leon / AP In these 2 videos taken from the web site of the El Heraldo de Leon on Tuesday July 2, 2008, policemen undergo torture sessions by fellow officers during training sessions for an elite unit in the city of Leon, Mexico. Several videos, first obtained by the Heraldo de Leon newspaper, have created an uproar in Mexico as police struggle with recent scandals over abuses. Police `torture' videos cause uproar in Mexico MEXICO CITY -- Videos showing Leon police practicing torture techniques on a fellow officer and dragging another through vomit at the instruction of a U.S. adviser created an uproar Tuesday in Mexico, which has struggled to eliminate torture in law enforcement. Two of the videos - broadcast by national television networks and displayed on newspaper Internet sites - showed what Leon city Police Chief Carlos Tornero described as training for an elite unit that must face "real-life, high-stress situations," such as kidnapping and torture by organized crime groups. But many Mexicans saw a sinister side, especially at a moment when police and soldiers across the country are struggling with scandals over alleged abuses. "They are teaching police ... to torture!" read the headline in the Mexico City newspaper Reforma. Human rights investigators in Guanajuato state, where Leon is located, are looking into the tapes, and the National Human Rights Commission also expressed concerned. "It's very worrisome that there may be training courses that teach people to torture," said Raul Plascencia, one of the commission's top inspectors. One of the videos, first obtained by the newspaper El Heraldo de Leon, shows police appearing to squirt water up a man's nose - a technique once notorious among Mexican police. Then they dunk his head in a hole said to be full of excrement and rats. The man gasps for air and moans repeatedly. In another video, an unidentified English-speaking trainer has an exhausted agent roll into his own vomit. Other officers then drag him through the mess. "These are no more than training exercises for certain situations, but I want to stress that we are not showing people how to use these methods," Tornero said. He said the English-speaking man was part of a private U.S. security company helping to train the agents, but he refused to give details. A third video transmitted by the Televisa network showed officers jumping on the ribs of a suspect curled into a fetal position in the bed of a pickup truck. Tornero said that the case, which occurred several months earlier, was under investigation and that the officers involved had disappeared. Mexican police often find themselves in the midst of brutal battles between drug gangs. Officials say that 450 police, soldiers and prosecutors have lost their lives in the fight against organized crime since December 2006. At the same time, several recent high-profile scandals over alleged thuggery and ineptness have reignited criticisms of police conduct. In Mexico City last month, 12 people died in a botched police raid on a disco. The National Human Rights Commission has documented 634 cases of military abuse since President Felipe Calderon sent more than 20,000 soldiers across the nation to battle drug gangs. And $400 million in drug-war aid for Mexico that was just signed into law by President George W. Bush doesn't require the U.S. to independently verify that the military has cleaned up its fight, as many American lawmakers and Mexican human rights groups had insisted. The videos may seem shocking, but training police to withstand being captured is not unusual, said Robert McCue, the director of the private, U.S. firm IES Interactive Training, which provides computer-based training systems in Mexico. "With the attacks on police and security forces in Mexico that have increased due to the drug cartel wars, I'm not surprised to see this specialized kind of training in resisting and surviving captivity and torture," he said. Associated Press Writer E. Eduardo Castillo contributed to this story.

Have you ever imagined to control your laundry machine or slow cooker from your office before going home? Yes, just "chat" with your home. The technology is already available. Your home appliance can be networked thru power lines and talk to your computer thru another interface. Then, your computer will take your home to the Internet! Now I can turn on/off any home appliance from anywhere around the world. You can either use Google talk client on Linux and Mac, or simple open a web browser and type some msg. Then, you message will fly over Internet to your home appliance network build by X10 protocol. Actually this technology, X10, is used in your home security system, like ADT-made ones. Just think, how do so many sensors and controllers talk to each other at your home? They don't use Internet, but a network over power lines. I just need a computer at home to bridge Internet and my home appliance network. And then run a program to convert my Google Talk messages into X10 instructions to control my home appliance. The webcam is powered by regular 110V/50Hz electric grid, of course, through a power adapter. Between the power adapter and the regular power outlet, is an X10 module to "split" X10 signals from 110V electricity. You can simply consider the power lines at my home as a combination of regular power cords and Internet cable, and the computer at my home is just a like a cell phone that can bridge cellular network and Internet, which is of computers. I want to thank Eric Xu, a Computer Science PhD student at Washington University in St. Louis. He helped me writing some codes and introduced me the fancy protocol, X10. Engineering our smart homes!

http://www.sportatlas.com/default.asp?mod=customers&p=register&cid=1355 http://www.sportatlas.com/default.asp?mod=mmoney We do not call it "network marketing" anymore, it's called "business allocation among consumers." The information from Robert Kiyosaki allows to accurately determine relationships between the parties of any business. If Robert Kiyosaki only spoke of the business developed by Other Opinion Inc., then he would say the following: "Participation in the implementation of advertising services provided by the company Other Opinion Inc., is called business distribution of revenues among consumers within the company." I propose we look at the following phases step by step: Phase No. 1:"IT" Answer the following question; what does the word "IT" mean in a sentence? In this case, "IT"- refers to the concept of marketing that can be safely applied to the companies advertising services of Other Opinion Inc. (Company). Clarifying No. 1: "IT" equals participation in the implementation of the companies advertising services... Phase No.2: "Business of distribution" "Business": Why do we encounter the word "business": simply because there is a demand as well as popular services, in the placement and servicing of web advertising on FPP vicinity in the Internet, and consumers are ready to pay for it. Why is the word "distribution" indicated: In the FPP business "action" takes place in two-fold: Distribution of promotional opportunities between participants/consumers. This distribution is very simple, more experienced participants/consumers will help less-experienced consumers determine prospects associated with the advertising of their commodity, and services within the FPP territory. Distribution of company's revenue among participants/consumers within the company. This distribution is automatically done, in accordance with the rules of FPP Policy. In the Policy there are rules indicated of fair distribution, in the participants personal office there is information shown of the persons income, and related incomes information. Clarifying No. 2: "Business income distribution" Phase No. 3: "Among Consumers" Lets consider the phrase "amongst consumers" in ligaments. The company shares part of its profits with those who are consumers of its services. On what basis and why: Because: Consumers can be participants of FPP. Participants of consumers help the Company attract and train new participants. Based on the conditions of FPP Policy. The document, will automatically take effect from the moment the consumer accepts the conditions in the distribution of advertising. Clarifying No. 3: "Company services among consumers" Participation in the sales of companies advertising services Other Opinion Inc., is called the business of income distribution between consumers within the company. Renowned businessman George Eastman has a quote: "A wealthy man never gives anything away, he just redistributes parts of the surplus. The people that give away are the people with moderate incomes." Another renowned businessman, John Paul Getty quote is: "Better to have 1% of income from the efforts of 100 people then 100% of personal efforts!" Another popular saying belongs to the "people" and it has a few options: Knowledge is Strength Knowledge is Power Knowledge is Money Knowledge is Life Let's look, what business results from skillful applications from the mixture of these sayings. For this example we will use business-opportunities from www.sportatlas.com: 1. Business plan "The Best Web Ads" 2. Partnership program in Forever Partnership Program (FPP) Knowledge (see people sayings): Each Participant in FPP: Has a equal opportunity to obtain knowledge of business development in FPP Applying the knowledge of the FPP business to develop their own business skills Receives revenue from the development of his/her business in accordance with the terms of FPP Policy. Each participant in the FPP knows about the vast opportunities in monthly incomes. In accordance with the rules of FPP it is to the advantage of participants to: Relate to internet users these opportunities (share information about the business) Invite internet users to become FPP members Train new participants on the details of business development in FPP Train new participants to train their participants on the details of business development in FPP. Analyze the information obtained as a result of communication (increase your professional skills in the FPP business, its like receiving additional knowledge and skills that will be used in sharing with potential participants of FPP)........... Learn how to operate this business and in the next 2-4 years you will: 1. Become wealthy 2. Gain comfort 3. Gain security

Speaker: Dr. Dong Xuan, Ph.D. Associate Professor, Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering, The Ohio State University The Internet's prosperity has brought convenience to our daily lives and fueled prolific network-based business across the globe. However, it has also become a breeding ground for a variety of crimes. For example, Web file downloading can be disguised using anonymous Internet communication systems, preventing detection of illegal use in cases such as child pornography. Because crime is spreading and increasing in severity along with the fast-growing Internet, network-based forensics - in particular, a fundamental network-based forensic technique, i.e., traceback - has gained increasing importance as part of legal surveillance. Both accuracy and invisibility of traceback are essential for successful network forensics. Accuracy enables traceback, while invisibility prevents detection and loss of a valuable means to gather legal evidence. Invisibility refers to the difficulty of detecting the traceback by anyone other than the investigators. When traceback attempts are identified, the correspondents will simply stop communicating with each other, thereby evading further detection. They may even develop countermeasures to fool or mislead investigators (e.g., by abusing some targets and feigning communications). In any case, forensic evidence may be lost, damaged or contaminated. The needs addressing both accuracy and invisibility of traceback have been largely overlooked. In this talk, we first overview traceback techniques in the Internet, and then discuss our newly-designed flow-marking technique for invisible traceback. The technique is based on Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) utilizing a Pseudo-Noise (PN) code. By interfering with a sender's traffic and marginally varying its rate, an investigator can embed a secret spread-spectrum signal into the sender's traffic. The embedded signal is carried along with the traffic from the sender to the receiver, so the investigator can recognize the corresponding communication relationship, tracing the messages despite the use of anonymous networks. The secret PN code makes it difficult for others to detect the presence of such embedded signals, so the traceback, while available to investigators, is effectively invisible. Invisible traceback possesses many important applications in the real world. In this talk, we also discuss potential developments of our designed invisible traceback technique into an effective and practical surveillance tool. Law enforcement agencies may use the tool to conduct electronic surveillance to combat Internet-based crimes, terrorism, or other malicious activities. http://www.livetech.hk/article.php?uid=8&do=showone&itemid=2902&type=blog

Google Tech Talks June 14, 2008 ABSTRACT This paper presents a significant new way of networking and data handling globally. This data centric network is likely to revolutionise the IT industry in a very positive fashion. Index Terms—security, freedom, privacy, DHT, encryption Introduction This paper describes a method of distributing information in a controlled non-owned grid. The main elements of the system are: - anonymous or self authentication - self healing network (perpetual data) - globally distributed Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) - self encryption - duplicate prevention (rather than data de-duplication) The Problems Addressed by this Paper - Privacy of network individuals - Anonymity of browsing and using digital resources - Security of data (both retention and theft prevention) Methodology Taking computers and linking them in a way in which everyone benefits and does not necessarily have to pay any price would be seen as not only acceptable but as a significant benefit. To allow people to add data, whatever it may be, and be assured that their data is secure and perpetual for as long as they want it is not possible today with any reality (as we see from the data loss stories so prevalent in the media). We will discuss in particular: - privacy of network individuals - anonymity of browsing and using digital resources - security of data (both retention and theft prevention) By using some of the this space to store authentication records created by the users themselves, we could allow self-authentication. By allowing self-authentication, people would be free of corporate controls or risks regarding their data protection. This could be achieved by users placing random data only they know the name of and password protecting that data for later re-validation. People would prefer to be in control of their own digital assets and not to leave this to corporations. Interestingly in this design any disk space you donate or are required to provide to the network will not store your data. Therefore you give up space for backup and the network stores none of your data in that space. In the maidsafe network, the network will self-heal, perform data de-duplication and duplicate prevention. Data will move around the network to reduce bandwidth usage, remove defunct hardware from the network and also to reduce any load on individual nodes. Also in this network and perhaps one of the most important facts is that a truly distributed PKI network will be created, enabling people to validate who they are and who they are communicating with. Speaker: David Irvine David Irvine is a Scottish Engineer and innovator who has spent the last 12 years researching ways to make computers function in a better way. Inventor listed on 11 patent submissions and designer of one of the world's largest private networks as well as consultant to many large corporations, he is an experienced project manager. What is SecureEasySetup? Installing a wireless network can be confusing enough for those of you who have no previous networking experience. So, why would you even attempt to install security too? Studies show that 75-80% of home network users ignore configuring WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) security, despite the warnings of potential identity theft and credit card fraud. Now SecureEasySetup (SES) makes setting up a wireless network and installing WPA security as simple as pushing a button. It enters complicated configuration settings automatically, eliminating the need to manually enter them! Configuring your network may also be more secure, in that an encrypted channel of communication is established between your router or access point and the network device you're configuring. This eliminates any possibility of a hijacker intercepting your codes. Although SES is new on the market, independent studies have shown that 98% of test subjects using SES were able to quickly setup their wireless network and establish a secure Wi-Fi connection. Two-Step SES Process This also works for reestablishing a wireless connection to your existing home network • Press the SES button on your Linksys wireless router or access point. (Button either on Cisco logo or standalone) • Click on the SecureEasySetup "START" button on your notebook PC or computer screen. A series of SecureEasySetup status messages keep you informed during the installation process. That's all! Just press and click! And in seconds, you have successfully set up a secure wireless network. No experience required. Please watch video for further information.
